In Observance of 9/11
In observance of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, millions of people from all 50 states and many others throughout the world — besides engaging in solemn remembrance and reflection — plan to pay tribute by taking time to volunteer, adopt charities of interest, help others in need and perform other good deeds. It is all part of a national initiative supported by the 9/11 community to make the 10th anniversary of 9/11 the single largest expression of charitable service in American history — and a day when millions of people commit to supporting causes for the long-term, not just on 9/11.

The Volunteer Center of Greensboro has been chosen to lead in the 10th Anniversary 9/11 Day of Remembrance Observance along with New York City, Boston, New Jersey (Jersey Cares is connected with each county in the state), Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and San Francisco in this three-day long event.

On Friday, September 9th, the focus is Corporate Engagement and The Volunteer Center is inviting the Greensboro corporate community to select a window of time when they can engage in acts of service of their choosing.

On Saturday, September 10th, the focus is Community Engagement and everyone in the community to take part in projects that are important to them and of their choosing.

On Sunday, September 11th, the focus is Commemoration and it will be the culmination of the prior two days of activity and will take place at the brand new Greensboro Coliseum Complex's White Oak Amphitheatre from 4 – 7:30pm. There will be a variety of hands on service opportunities for people of all ages to participate in. Local non-profits will also have the opportunity to share information about future events and volunteer opportunities. Shepherd's Center of Greensboro is open to all older adults 60+ or retired. Membership is not required to participate, volunteer, or receive services.
