PROGRAMS

Adventures in Learning

  • 3 6-week sessions - winter, spring and fall
  • rotates among congregations
  • Thursdays, from 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM
  • includes a choice of 3 classes
  • lunch time includes a forum - entertainment, community resources, issues
  • Classes may include yoga, line dancing, aerobics, Spanish or French, water colors, wood carving, history, poetry, short stories, travel, Great Decisions, financial planning, legal issues, music appreciation, opera, etc.
  • Most classes are taught by seniors, many are retired professors and professionals

SeniorNet Computer Learning Center

  • Monthly schedule of classes include Fundamental Skills, Introduction to Computers, Word Processing, Email and Internet Exploration, Windows Management, Introduction to Genealogy, Database and Spreadsheet Tools, Quicken, and Digital Photo Imaging
  • Over 75 volunteers assist with all facets of the Center, including instruction
  • Unique learning environment with individual computer stations and hands on instruction

Traveling Shepherds

  • One-day trips to places of interest such as Wytheville, Virginia to see "South Pacific," to Asheville's Grove Park Inn for the Gingerbread Festival, to the Yadkin Valley wine country, to Pinehurst for lunch and shopping, to the Duke Gardens or the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens
  • Safe, comfortable bus transportation
  • Entertaining trip leader(s)
  • Minimal expense

Life Enrichment

  • Men's Breakfast - all men, 60 or retired, are invited to breakfast every Thursday at 7:00 AM at Tex and Shirley's
  • Eastern Music Festival - a night together with a pre-concert education session for the program by EMF professionals, followed by a concert
  • Triad Elderhostel Alumni - group meets quarterly for opportunities to share experiences
  • Other educational or enriching learning opportunities, workshops, conferences or forums

Triad Elderhostel Alumni

  • The Triad Elderhostel Alumni Group is sponsored by Shepherd's Center of Greensboro.
  • The meeting is open to all Elderhostel alumni and interested persons age 55+.
  • The group meets quarterly with a planned program of interest; annually guests are invited to come and learn about Elderhostel.
  • There is an opportunity to share information about trips available through Elderhostel.
  • An occasional "charter" program may be scheduled for members of the Triad Elderhostel Alumni.

Special Events

  • Annual Celebration - local entertainment, speakers, and music help us recognize another year of activity and volunteerism
  • Annual Seniors Golf Tournament, held in late summer for those 60+
  • Shepherd's Centers of America - state, regional and national conferences and meetings
