Charlie and Mary

Shepherd's Center has established the Charles & Mary Routh Endowment at nearly $200,000!

In 2007, long-time Shepherd's Center volunteers Charlie and Mary Routh challenged Shepherd's Center of Greensboro to match their gift of $100,000 by raising the same amount in two years. Shepherd's Center accepted the Challenge and began raising funds in January of 2008. By December 31st, 2009 more than $92,000 had been pledged. While this was just short of the $100,000 goal, Charlie and Mary, in view of the worst economic climate since the Great Depression, decided to honor the full gift amount, establishing the endowment at just under $200,000.

Shepherd's Center is forever grateful for the generosity and support of the Rouths. "It's such a good program for the older people. We wanted to create an endowment to help with income for long-range operating costs," said Charlie.

Gifts to the Endowment Fund will support Shepherd's Center mission of "older adults helping older adults" as an extension of our sponsors' older adult ministries through education, enrichment and service throughout our community.

Thanks to Charlie and Mary Routh who are well known in our community for their generosity and good spirit!
